Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet celebrated the announcement of federal funding to address mental health across Colorado.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration had selected Colorado to receive $1 million to address the national mental health crisis and expand community behavioral health care. The funding will help the state develop a plan to expand and improve community-based behavioral health care.

Colorado was one of 13 states to be selected for federal funding. In 2026 up to ten of the selected states will be selected to participate in a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Medicaid demonstration and could get more Medicaid reimbursement.

The money comes from the bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022.
